What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is truly living in every moment. It is about having an awareness of the present reality and accepting it without judgment. Mindfulness is about responding to every interaction with an open mind & intentional attitude. By not immediately reacting but internalizing and accepting each moment with an open heart and open mind, we can choose to respond to anything in a kind and compassionate way.

What is MBSR?

MBSR stands for Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and is an 8-week course designed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979. Since then it has been practiced by people all over the world, benefiting each of their lives in different ways. Each week this course expands and challenges your mind by building new neural networks. Each class encourages mindfulness through everyday tasks such as eating, walking and breathing while allowing the student to dive inward and connect with their true self.

How is it different from Meditation?

Being mindful is different than meditating, however, you can mindfully meditate. Meditating may cause a state of inner peace that arises from relaxing and clearing the mind. A common misunderstanding is that mindfulness is only about having an empty mind. The difference is that Mindfulness is not about having a clear, calm mind. Rather it is about accepting any thoughts and feelings, good or bad, and reacting accordingly to our true self.
